Many—not all—of these are 48 Hour Film Projects. Friday evening at 6:00 pm you draw one of 32 genres from a hat & must have a totally original, fully written, produced, staffed, directed, scored, colored, titled, 11-minute film, often with special effects, original music, and props used in the manor prescribed to ensure originality by 6;00 pm Sunday to compete. We’ve won 2ndplace twice, audience favorite twice, best writing (yours truly) and best actor 3 times, and this is often done with a group of complete strangers’ who’ve volunteered for the experience and reel credits. Hell, I was even paid a couple of times. But the whole thing left me jaded. Especially after I was dropped by the manager and attorney for not moving out West with my young family and no other job prospects.
